Good crowd. Lots and lots of teens around us going absofreaking crazy with excitement. Two Adam-wannabe-lookalikes had a lot of fun getting their pics taken with people in the audience. Freeeeezing cold -- Adam kept the striped jacket on right thru the encore (Mad World only).

Aw, I could have met you! :)

Yeah, I went over near the M&G to find a friend, and there were these two girls peeking over the fence at him and literally hyperventilating. Like, "Huh huh huh he's sooo beautiful. *squeak*
Omygod omygod omygod..." LOL they were so cute. Lots of young girls...light-ups in hair, homemade puffy paint t-shirts, all glammed up. It was great.

I didn't think it was that cold, but I'm weird that way. :)

Sad there was no TCB (we heard he soundchecked it...?). But the oddest thing IMO was the Brooke dance. What did you think of that?

Brooke...idk. It seemed like she expected to dance with him, as usual, but then he backed up and motioned to her like, "No, you go ahead." It was all with smiles, so I'm certainly not suggesting any drama, it was just unexpected. I haven't watched any video yet, so maybe that will clear it up a little.

From the video, it looks like Adam decided to let her try a solo and she wasn't really prepared for that, like he caught her off-guard.

I did not know people still used puff paint! Some of those teen girls were quite proficient with it. And the shrieking and squealing -- Wow! If I heard it once, I heard it a million times, "OMG, he's so hot!" My dd who has had a cobalt blue layer in her hair for a long time felt she should have made herself a puff paint tee that said, "My hair is always like this, thank you." I guess she thought hair cred was critical.

What WAS going on with the Brooke dance?

We were watching the merch boot and the #1 tee we saw coming away was the tour tee with the orange lettering. Also lots of dog tags.

We saw Neil a million times (my dd thinks I'm a stalker for knowing what he looks like LOL). It was interesting being in line around people who had no idea Adam even had a brother or who is dancers are, etc -- proving my dd's contention that I am a stalker.

Did you see all the people in the lawn seats -- I wonder what the actual count was.

Same thing at my show. But I wasn't up front, so it was probably different there. Also, Neil was setting up the stage and nobody reacted. And I'm positive it wasn't because they were respectful.
So yeah, it was kind of a reality check for me. Hee.

Later I bonded with a lady next to me who had done some research. We joked about premature screaming during picture changes between sets ;-)

Have you been to other shows? First heat exhaustion, now cold. If I make it to Puyallup, it will be a fun bookend to my one other show with no a/c.

We were at the Milwaukee show which was a totally different kind of venue (restored theater house), smaller crowd, and different crowd. There was a lot of diversity at Milwaukee, but the age demographics did skew older than at Rockford. Another difference was that there was a lot more drinking at this show by the older attendees since they were not enforcing the 2 drinks maximum rule.

I did love love love seeing the teens' enthusiasm -- it was very sweet, IMO. I chat with people in public, so I talked with a bunch of them and like the older ladies, they too had spent the entire day getting ready, after spending the week before making their shirts and tote bags, etc. Everyone regretted not making Adam Snuggies to wear, however, given how cold it was!

The variety in demographics is so fun to observe, and it truly warms the cockles of my heart. I loved watching the teens, too. Club kids, not club kids. (let's forget the earsplitting noise for a moment, hee) I especially remember several groups with very imaginative club wear. I was a little envious, actually, because I didn't do this sort of thing when I was that age.

Club kids, not club kids.

That was fascinating to me how the teens themselves were so diverse. Around us we had club kids, cheerleaders with their football player boyfriends, teens in Hollister and AE mall wear, black, white and Asian... My dd said she can't think of any time she's seen this much voluntary mixing of different types of teens before.

There were a LOT of people on the lawn. That is my estimate. :) I have no idea; can't wait to find out. Maybe the OTW fest will release a number.

Yeah, we saw Neil a lot too. He was wrangling the M&G people (you might have seen). He seemed pretty unscathed. :)

And I know what you mean. As ~well-informed as I am, it's always weird to overhear people call Tommy "the blond guy" or watch Monte walk across a parking lot in full view of fans with no reaction.

Brooke...idk. I seemed like she expected to dance with him, as usual, but then he backed up and motioned to her like, "No, you go ahead." I didn't think there was any drama either in re the Brooke dance, just for those of us who perhaps (just maybe, ahem) spend a little too much time looking at tour vids, it was so different than other shows, it was surprising.

All in all, though, I just love seeing the diversity in the fan base. Sometimes it seems that we are so voluntarily separated from each other by politics and demographics and even, entertainment choices that it's wonderful to see such a broad range of people gathered in one place.

IA with every word. It's fun to meet Adam people IRL and have a great time with them and realize we'd probably never run into each other otherwise. I love the diversity and (IMO) the sense of connection.

One of the members here went to her first GN show last night and she had never talked to an Adam fan, in person, before me. She was so excited to find "her people," though the crowd could not have been more diverse. I understood exactly what she meant.

Hi Mary! What a great time I had. I know everyone says this but it really was surreal. I had a blast. My husband is now a glambert. He totally got into it. I thought the crowd was great. I came home and read the twitter feed and I swear it seems like some people were at another concert. Everyone stood by us and as far as I could see all peeps were standing. The security was easy. Very diverse, happy crowd of people. It was really great to see how Adam really does bring people together. I sat by nice people. I noticed that he was not going for high notes but it was to be expected because of the cold. It did not detract from the performance AT ALL. Live is so diff than videos. You get so caught up. You and your sister were so nice. Glad to see you there. Thank you again for the tickets. You really made our night. Next tour I will be better prepared. Have fun tonight in Peoria.

Hey there! Sorry I'm so late replying.

I'm so glad you had a good time! Wasn't it great? There's something about an Adam concert where I feel like I'm completely in a zone -- I don't even think about real life. It's amazing. No place I'd rather be.

Yay for your husband! I was hoping he'd like it. Yeah, the crowd was really nice and really happy. We sat next to a girl who had just been to the M&G and she was, like, vibrating with happiness. Just grinning and shaking and squealing. So cute. Rockford was her first concert.

Did people say the crowd was sitting? NO ONE was sitting near me. Everyone was up and screaming.

Next tour we will definitely be in touch and try to hit the same show again, ok? :)
(Reply) (Parent) (Thread) (Link)
[identity profile] camillecarelli.livejournal.com on September 8th, 2010 02:38 am (UTC)
I did not see anyone sitting as far as my eyes could see. Not even the husbands there for their wives (well, except one guy but we won't get into him). I'm tall enough that I could see for quite a ways and did not see one person sitting other than a very elderly lady in a wheelchair and a guy on crutches. There ended up being some empty seats near me because the people with those tix decided to stand over by the merch booth rather than in front of their seats or rather, they were empty until people in the back moved forward into them.

We were actually paying attention to that bec so many people were sitting for Allison, (which had not been the case at the last show we attended) and my dd felt bad for her and made an extra amount of noise for her.

They were probably scared to stand up. I'm quiet, an introvert, but I was threatened with expulsion if I didn't sit down during Alison's set.

I was standing in front of my 4th row seat (left of stage, 1st seat after the end of 1st 3 rows) and I was told to SIT DOWN by a big angry looking security guard - my 5'4" 130 lbs was blocking the view for EVERY person behind me - I don't know how they managed to see through the 100 people standing in the first 3 rows cuz I sure couldn't.

A couple of songs later, I stood up to take a pix, the SG immediately marched over and told me to SIT DOWN and if he had to TALK to me again he was gonna throw me out. I was utterly flabbergasted, in 30 years of concert going, I've never heard of anyone being told to sit down (I was merely STANDING - not dancing, not waving my arms, not even making noise) let alone thrown out. When I pointed out that everyone else was standing, he said something to 1 women in the last seat of the 3rd row, later I learned he told her to sit down - she told him "no way." When this SG wasn't physically grabbing peeps to tell them to walk around/behind the section, he was glaring at my 15 yr daughter and I (she is smaller than I am).

During the break between Alison's and Adam's set I found the manager, he was apologetic and accompanied me back to my seat to tell the SG to leave us alone. He actually had the SG move about 10 feet west - toward the center stage. Then when he came to tell me he'd taken care of it, 3 women in the row behind us (not even directly behind us that lady & her dghtrs were nice) started yelling - I'm guessing they'd complained to the angry control-freak SG - "We paid $29 for these tickets!", "Does she think this concert is just for HER!", "No one can see around your WIDE ASS!", and my favorite "What kind of an example are you setting for your daughter!". OMG. The manager and I looked at each other in disbelief. He said to ignore them, that everyone would be standing for Adam's set, and if they kept yelling, he'd find better seats for us.

Things I would've liked to yell at rude trolls: Feel lucky that's all you paid. Not only did I pay for our reserved seating tickets, I also paid $145 for Backstage Club Passes, but the VERY few seats with any view were gone by 2PM. That other woman the SG told to sit down paid $200 for her seat and a girl in a silver sequined beret was rumored to have paid $1,000 for 2nd row.
WTF, ADAM isn't singing directly to me?!!!! SRSLY!
Since your faces look like dried apples. the fact that your hips are huge may have escaped your notice.
Just wait until ADAM yells, "Get on your feet and dance, bitches!"
She isn't my daughter, she's my wife!
I think I'm teaching my daughter to stand up for herself - to realize that SG was unfair, to not be intimidated by him, to not argue w SG but seek the help of the appropriate authority, and to take the high road by not returning insults of classless trolls who had never been to a concert before.

Wow. Didn't realize how bitter I still am about that.

Despite trolls and scary SG, we enjoyed the concert. :D

WeArePopStar: Adam Lambert's (@adamlambert) Glam Nation Tour Unites Fans in Rockford, IL - http://www.popstar.com/News/Music/Article/120

Adam Lambert's Glam Nation Tour Unites Fans in Rockford, IL

"Who is this guy?" asked an usher. "Was he on television or something? It's strange. If you look at this audience, it's filled with people of all ages. I've never in all my life seen such a diverse age-range come out to see one man."

Meet Adam Lambert, sir.

If you had been among the few who showed up for the "On The Waterfront" festival in Rockford, IL last Saturday wondering what all The Buzz was about, you would have been quickly enlightened by eager fans willing to explain the whole thing. Arriving hours before the show with their fully charged camera phones and trusTy Lawn chairs in tow, these folks were, are, and always will be loyal ambassadors to The Glam Nation.

Those fortunate enough to get an assigned seat (they sold out faster than any other artist in history to perform at this annual festival) had a fairly good view of the stage. Those on the lawn had to carefully navigate a sea of fellow Lambert lovers in order to get a decent spot.

After a bang-up performance by Lambert's friend Allison Iraheta that included the singer's hits "Don't Waste the Pretty," "Scars", and "Friday I'll Be Over U," a recorded version of "For Your Entertainment" rushed through the fully packed house. Though the song itself was noticeably absent from Lambert's live set, you had only to hear the first few bars of his opener "Voodoo" to realize that you were in for a spell of musical theatrics, visual graphics, and some top notch vocal entertainment.

Prowling down the stairs in a fur trimmed frock and a feather in his cap, Lambert effortlessly tuned into the moment. His cute-as-a-button bassist Tommy Joe Ratliff couldn't seem to resist The Urge to punctuate Voodoo's primal rhythm by bumping it up a notch, while Lambert's well-rehearsed dancers undulated in and out of tribal formation amidst a cloud of purple haze.

In the Cash classic "Ring of Fire," Lambert delivered soulful vocals laced with a sultry rhythmic vibe. "Fever" had both audience members and venue employees on their feet. The song's well-choreographed maneuvers also had Lambert and his male dancers strutting in perfect unison.

"The Theme of tonight's show is love," Lambert said after the ballad "Sleepwalker." His solemn, rock steady performance held the audience captive as they silently sang along. "That song is about the fact that sometimes love just sucks. But in order to hold on to true love, sometimes you just have to ask the right questions."

It was the lead into "Whataya Want From Me?," an acoustic version with ace guitarist Monte Pittman strumming a more up-tempo selection of Lambert's first single from the CD For Your Entertainment, which debuted at No. 3 on Billboard's Top 200 in December of 2009.

"Soaked," another well constructed ballad, produced a collective hush and some random chills from the audience. Lambert's flawless vocals called to mind once again, that it all comes down to the voice. Smoke and mirrors be damned...this guy can sing, really sing, and he left No Doubt that the visuals were merely designed to enhance the overall experience.

As he took a seat on the stage, Lambert wiped his well-penciled brow and declared, "Ahhh love... The key to finding true love is to find the love for yourself." With that, he dove into "Aftermath," a song many consider to be a liberating anthem of self acceptance. "Anytime anybody puts you down, anytime anybody says you're not allowed, just remember, you are not alone -- in the aftermath" He chose an acoustic version of this song as well, and in doing so, delivered one of the most relevant and poignant performances of the evening.

Next up, the techno/glam bad-boy ditty "Sure Fire Winners." Playful pop at its best, Lambert treated the crowd to a few gratuitous pelvic thrusts and his ridiculously versatile vocal skills. When it comes to range, Lambert is not a one-trick-pony; a fact he demonstrates in SFW with a high note audible only to dogs and certain cutting-edge sonar equipment. In any event, concert-goers were happy to score the kind of live performance that, in many other cases, would only have existed on studio-recorded tracks.

"This song is about letting it all hang out" Lambert said, introducing the song "Strut." Using the mic stand as a devilishly delicious prop, he swung his cane teasingly from side to side singing, "I wanna see you strut, strut, strut, strut, come on walk for me." Needless to say, there were a few in attendance more than eager to comply.

A fan in the third row, a registered nurse, reported that this was her sixth show on the tour. "Each one is different," she said. "Completely different. I have followed this man across the country, and I"m not through." When asked how the Rockford show compared to the others on a scale of one to ten, she gave it a nine saying, "He toned it down tonight. I mean a lot! But the audience is so into it. It really is a great show!" Drummer Longineu Parsons agreed. After the show, we asked him how he felt everything went. "Great," he said. "The crowd was awesome tonight!"

(The show was a bit tame by comparison to other dates, most likely due to the festival atmosphere and a substantial teen and pre-teen presence. The lack of more overt sexual displays from Lambert did not seem to hinder the crowd's overall appreciation of the show.)

After a well deserved nod to his band and dancers Lambert introduced his final song of the set, "If I Had You" saying, "This next song is what the whole show is about. The message I'm trying to send is that no matter how much money you have, no matter how much sex you have, and no matter how many things you have in this world, it doesn't mean much unless you're connected with love."

Glam right!
