I'm torn on the idea of the whole album sounding like WWFM. It's my least favorite song on FYE (It's boring to me), but at the same time I think it would help him to become more successful??

I completely agree, I'm really hoping that he just means "in that vein" in terms of a pop/rock sound and not really WWFM specifically as it is one of my least favorite on FYE and I honestly would be bored to tears by an entire album of that style/sound. I know he needs some really "radio friendly" songs and WWFM is the song that did the best on US radio so maybe that is the line of thinking on singles to start off with but I really hope that's only a portion of the album and we get some variety of sound and style still even if it isn't as eclectic as FYE is.

I really think "the whole thing will sound like WWFM" should be taken with about a million grains of salt. Really, he never knows what he's saying, tbh. He tends to explain things in really vague, broad ways and then do something completely different anyway. The album is in early stages, and he really doesn't know, except that he wants to go a little less campy. He's not going to do an album of all the same thing, ever, you know? He just wants to sing a little more and have songs about more personal topics- that comes with him writing more. I don't think it's something to worry about just yet.

What producers would you really love to see Adam work with, repeats from FYE or new producers? I would love some more songs with Greg Wells, their collaborations were my favorites on FYE, I also loved Voodoo with Sam Sparro.

Yes, def Sam Sparro. Sexy, lover-inspired songs, please ;)

Sia.

And DW Greg Wells and Claude Kelly again. Really love CLYG and prefer it more than WWFM as far as vocally powerful pop/rock ballads. Still can't believe it was a bonus track

I take Adam's comments about leaning more towards a WWFM sound as a sign of his business savvy. He wants to be commercially viable and he recognizes the type of sound that is popular and that will get radio play. This approach is also a good way to showcase his actual talent, his voice, cos there really aren't a lot of mainstream male singers who can sing like he can, so I think it's smart of him to include more songs in that vein on the next album. (side note - I was never particularly fond of WWFM's sound but I can appreciate it for being a good song.)

BUT, I don't take his comments to mean that he wants to construct an album full of just that kind of pop/rock sound. I think there will still be elements of electro/dance/pop beats as seen on FYE cos that's the kind of sound he really digs and is influenced by, though overall it may be toned down in terms of production.

Really looking forward to hearing about possible collaborators and producers! Max Martin seems an inevitable one given the success of WWFM and IIHY, and how Adam is so enthusiastic about working with him again. I think those two songs really show how the approach to album 2 would not be such a drastic departure from that of album 1. Would love if Adam did more stuff with Dr. Luke, cos I think FYE the song is underrated, as well as Sam Sparro. It seems he may be interested in working with Bonnie McKee in some capacity given her repertoire, so that may be cool. I am also ridiculously excited about Adam doing more songwriting for Album 2 (a lot of those co-writes may likely involve Greg Wells cos he seemed to enjoy collaborating with him)... we already know the boy can write a damn good bridge :P

ITA w/ him trying to be more commercial. It worked with WWFM, so he knows what radio will play.

"Less rhinestones, more leather"

Album cover: Adam pulling a Rose Dawson on a leather couch. Necklace of his choice.

As for the sound, are we expecting for the album to be more cohesive? I've gotten so used to the assorted jellybean-ness of FYE that I can't imagine Adam putting out an album collectively sounding the same. But it's Adam. It's not like he's collaborating with Nickelback. Not worried :)

You know how Adam said Sia's album was his fave from 2010? I really think he's inspired by this. A lot more personal. Where the songwriter comes out. More of his own thoughts/words/experiences/jizz into the next album.

I was actually having a pretty good conversation about what I think Adam's talking about when he says he's gonna do a more emotional album with songs like WWFM with someone else the other day because I feel like maybe a lot of ppl are taking that to mean all more sombre sad songs and I don't feel like that's necessarily true at all. So Imma do a bit of c/p and it's totes gonna be tl;dr too though so don't say I didn't warn you. XD

I think that when he's talking about the new album being more emotional, that he doesn't exactly mean emotional in the sorta sad & depressed way but maybe rather that he means it'll have more emotional depth?

From my point of view, lots of the songs on FYE, fun as they are, lack emotional variety within the songs themselves. MA, STRUT, IIHY, PUU are all just happy & fun. FYE & Fever are just sexy.

That leaves WWFM, Soaked, A Loaded Smile, Sleepwalker, Aftermath & Broken Open. Take out ALS and BO which he didn't perform often and that leaves the acoustic tour set + Sleepwalker which also happen to be the songs I think he was the most emotionally connected to when he performed them (as opposed to him just having fun with the others).

When I think about the emotional content of those songs, I feel like there's a lot any particular listener could read into each song.

WWFM - Anger, Frustration, Sadness, Vulnerability
Soaked - Shame, Sadness, Hope
Aftermath - Fear, Loneliness, Hope, Relief, Success
Sleepwalker - Anger, Sadness, Desperation, Abandonment, Loss

And add ALS & BO back into the list and I think you'll find that they're are both equally multidimensional with their handling of emotions (ALS is obvious and BO in the sense that it's supportive & strong at the same time that it's also a bit soft and vulnerable).

That's what I read into it when he says emotional that the new songs will have more depth (like these) which will lend themselves to him connecting better with them. And that doesn't at all mean that all the songs will be sad or somber (Sleepwalker has always come across as angry to me and Aftermath and happy and ALS as introspective and BO as supportive) or that they won't lend themselves to being dance tunes (Apparently we'll find this out with the Aftermath remix) because there are TONS of emotions that he could connect to, it doesn't have to be just sadness and I think that's what Adam's getting at too, that maybe he's more than always just silly and sexy and happy and camp that there's other things there too and that maybe he can be many things at once.

Like I think it esp made it clear that maybe that's what he's getting at in the Perez interview when he said that there's still gonna be glam and camp but that it's rather gonna take maybe a back seat to other stuff. Because like obvs glam & camp are a part of him, but they aren't the only part?

Idk, obvs I can't in anyway know what he's actually thinking and in all likelihood I'm just talking out my ass and way off base, but that's the sorta impression I'm getting from hearing him talk about the second album right now.

Told ya it was tl;dr

I think the only style of music I don't want to hear a lot of from Adam is the overly-produced, electro, and/or cold sound of A Loaded Smile and the original FYE version of Broken Open.

I will say that I really do enjoy Adam's song-writing on FYE, so I am eager to hear what he'll come up with this time.

I actually violently abhorred WWFM when it first came out. It grew on me, but I'd rather not the next album "sound" like it either. >>

That being said, I like the idea of more co-writing, pop, more vocals, being true to your emotions, etc. I really hate the overproduction on the last album - especially how thin it made his voice sound like in places (one of the reasons I dislike Fever. *shrugs*)

Anyway, my unpopular opinions are unpopular so I'll stfu and stfd.

What I liked about WWFM is that it was the type of song that had a universal message plus it was a singer's song, which meant that lots of singers could cover it if they wanted to. That helped it explode all over Europe when XFactor/AI contestants used it for auditions and performances. I hope there are a couple of those kinds of songs, plus songs that allow Adam to use his sick vocal skills.

As long as stuff is catchy I'm a happy person. And as long as he doesn't do that baby voice thing too much. And as long as there is a few dance tracks. And as long as he works with Sam Sparro again.
hhhmmm maybe I'm more picky than I thought...

THIS SUBJECT HAS BEEN PREYING UPON MY MIND
I fight it off, don't want to think about it. It's Adam's business, not mine. I know I will love and appreciate whatever he decides to put out on his next album, because bb is smart and talented and one hell of an artist.

But However Tho...I'se a bit torn/conflicted. I want so much for Adam, because he actually deserves everyfuckinggoodthing. Not sure how this desire dovetails with Adam and his own art. I know he needs to go deeper, to provide story and depth and heart for his insane talent.

Okay so maybe I AM a little drunk, but still I really want him to succeed in as many ways as possible; I do, in fact, want and expect him to be iconic. He has it all, it just remains to be seen how he will express it in this next album (the one he gets to take TIME for, praise the lord).

The pressure bugs me, but I acknowledge its reality: He has yet to show he's more than a sublime singer...he needs to connect that insane talent with his gut (I mean, do so more clearly for the general public), and put out some songs that surprise, that hit home, and that have staying power.

My thought is that if Katy Perry can do as well as she is, Adam should rule the world.

First album writing hints:

J_SKINS: in the studio with Ryan Tedder and adamlambert writing some lil dittys. And they've Never Been Better!

Will be interesting to see what might come out of that, out of his collabs with Tedder on FYE I actually liked Master Plan but thought the album version of Sleepwalker was boring and sounded like a signature Tedder track (which is not a plus in my book) but it was a lot better live so it did give Adam something to play with in terms of interpretation.

"You tweeted about recently working with songwriter Ryan Tedder. What else can you tell us about your new album?

I think if anything, it might be a little less campy than the last one. With [For Your Entertainment], I really wanted to go high glam; it was always a vibe and a concept I was in love with and I did it for a year. I think evolution is good and I'm attracted to the slightly more serious… not so much fantasy or a mask put on -- which is fun, great f---ing rock-n-roll -- but I'm very drawn to music and artists that are singing from the heart about real things.

Like whom? What are you listening to these days?

The new Adele album blows my mind. Last year, that Sia album was on repeat. And I also love electronic music. Really, I listen to a lot of it. The pop music that's out right now I love, but I've become attracted to more organic sounds again. Even if they're electronic, I want them to feel like they came from the earth, tangible, more primal. It's going to be great. It's moody so far, but who knows. I should probably stop now because last time we did this, I said all this stuff about the album and then it was, like, "Oh that didn't make the album." So I don't wanna jinx it. "
